Advanced distribution protection and restoration systems are built from distributed control and communications technologies. They are designed to communicate over peer-to-peer networks or over high-speed fiber-optic networks, operating either autonomously or in concert with substation automation systems. Advanced distribution protection must also be able to integrate with distributed generation, storage technologies and other distributed resources to reliably protect distribution assets.[1]
