Advanced Technology

Gartner defines Advanced Technology as "a technology that is still immature but promises to deliver significant value, or that has some technical maturity but still has relatively few users. Among current examples: are artificial intelligence, agents, speech and handwriting recognition, virtual reality and 3D visualization, smart cards, real-time collaboration, enhanced user authentication, data mining, and knowledge management."

Advanced Technology Functions are characterized by their very high degree of flexibility and performance. This allows very individual, complex tasks to be quickly and efficiently implemented in the drive itself. As a consequence, higher-level automation systems can be significantly relieved. All of the time-critical tasks are directly computed in the drive – therefore minimizing the communication load between the drive and the automation system. The functional scope of Advanced Technology Functions can be scalable and flexible.
