Functional Strategy

According to Gareth R. Jones, “Functional Strategy is a plan of action to strengthen an organization’s Functional and organizational resources, as well as its coordination abilities, in order to create core competencies.” Corporate and Business strategies give birth to functional strategies, which are implemented in the organization through functional and operational implementation.

‘A functional strategy is the short-term game plan for a key functional area within a company’. It is the approach a functional area takes to achieve corporate and business unit objectives and strategies by maximizing resource productivity. It deals with a relatively restricted plan that provides the objectives for a specific function, for the allocation of resources among different operations within that functional area and for facilitating coordination between them for an optimal contribution to the achievement of the business and corporate-level objectives.
