What is Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®)?

The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is a set of guidelines and standards for project management, published by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It provides a common language and framework for project management, and it is widely used as a reference in the field of project management.

The PMBOK includes a set of processes that are essential to the successful management of a project. These processes are grouped into five process groups: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Within each process group, there are specific processes that must be followed in order to effectively manage a project.

The PMBOK also includes a set of ten knowledge areas that are essential to the successful management of a project. These knowledge areas are:

• Time management
• Cost management
• Quality management
• Resource management
• Communication management
• Risk management
• Procurement management
• Stakeholder management

The PMBOK is updated periodically to reflect the latest best practices in project management. The latest version of the PMBOK, PMBOK Guide - Sixth Edition, was published in 2017. It is widely used as a reference for project management professionals and is a requirement for obtaining the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, which is a widely recognized professional credential in the field of project management.
