What is Social Multi Criteria Analysis (SMCA)?

Social Multi Criteria Analysis (SMCA) is a method of decision-making that takes into account multiple criteria and stakeholders when evaluating options or making decisions. It is a tool that is used to balance the trade-offs between different criteria and stakeholders in a transparent and democratic way, and it is often used in situations where there are multiple conflicting objectives or where the interests of different stakeholders need to be considered.

SMCA involves the identification and evaluation of a set of options or alternatives based on a set of predetermined criteria, as well as the involvement of multiple stakeholders in the decision-making process. The criteria and stakeholders are identified and prioritized, and the options or alternatives are evaluated based on their performance on the different criteria and their impact on the different stakeholders.

SMCA is often used in situations where there are complex and conflicting objectives, such as in environmental decision-making or in the development of public policies. It is a useful tool for ensuring that decisions are transparent, democratic, and reflective of the needs and interests of all stakeholders.
