Extended Enterprise Architecture Framework (E2AF)

What is the Extended Enterprise Architecture Framework (E2AF)?

The Extended Enterprise Architecture Framework (E2AF) is a framework for enterprise architecture (EA) that focuses on the relationships and interactions between an organization and its external partners and stakeholders. Unlike traditional EA frameworks, which focus mainly on the internal structure and processes of an organization, the E2AF expands the scope of EA to include the organization's external environment.

The E2AF is composed of several different levels, each of which provides a different view of the organization and its environment. These levels include:

  1. Business Architecture: Describes the business processes, functions, and organizational structures of the organization and its external partners.
  2. Information Architecture: Describes the information systems, data, and technology that support the business processes of the organization and its external partners.
  3. Technology Architecture: Describes the hardware, software, and network infrastructure that support the information systems of the organization and its external partners.
  4. Physical Architecture: Describes the physical infrastructure that supports the technology infrastructure of the organization and its external partners.
  5. Security Architecture: Describes the security measures that are in place to protect the organization and its external partners from risks and threats.

The E2AF also includes a governance structure that defines the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in the organization and its environment. This helps to ensure that EA activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the organization and its external partners and that the organization's EA efforts are coordinated and integrated with those of its partners.
