Synectics

What is Synectics?

Synectics is a creative problem-solving method that was developed by William J.J. Gordon in the 1960s. It is based on the idea that the process of creative problem-solving can be facilitated by using analogies and metaphorical thinking to make connections between seemingly unrelated ideas or concepts.

In a synectics process, a group of people works together to come up with creative solutions to a problem. The group may use a variety of techniques, such as brainstorming, role-playing, and free association, to generate ideas and explore new perspectives on the problem. The goal of synectics is to help people think outside of the box and come up with innovative solutions that they might not have considered otherwise.

One of the key principles of synectics is the idea that the solution to a problem often lies in finding connections between seemingly unrelated ideas or concepts. By making connections between different areas of knowledge, people can come up with new and innovative solutions to problems. Additionally, the synectics process often involves looking at a problem from different perspectives and using metaphor and analogy to help people see the problem in a new light.
